(Gilbert, AZ) - Friday, conservative business leader Christine Jones issued the "Department of Failure" to the US State Department.
On Tuesday, the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations released a report detailing State Department grant money being provided to an advocacy organization that partnered with an Israeli group to defeat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The group called OneVoice Movement, advocates for peace negotiations between Israel and Palestininian groups and received US tax dollars in the form of grants for 14 months. Immediately after grants stopped, OneVoice joined with an Israeli political group called Victory 15 to wage a political campaign against Netanyahu. The Senate report claims that grant money was used to build political infrastructure, voter lists and pay professional community organizers (Fox News - July 12, 2016)
Christine Jones provided the following statement:
"It is outrageous that our tax dollars were given to an organization that built a political machine to oust our strongest and most loyal ally in the Middle East. Taxpayer dollars should never be used for electioneering abroad, let alone to undermine our closest and most important friend in the region at a critical time when his leadership is needed more than ever.
"State Department officials should be reminded of their mission to 'create a more secure, democratic, and prosperous world for the benefit of the American people and the international community.' Providing our tax dollars to questionable organizations whose intent is to cause further political instability in a highly volatile region of the world not only goes against the mission of the Department but potentially exacerbates an already dangerous geopolitical situation."
